SESSION 1: INTRODUCTION TO BAROQUE VIOLIN

✧ Content: Do I need a different bow? Should I use gut strings? In this session, Maite will answer these questions and more, and demonstrate the essential differences between modern and baroque violins.

✧ Goal: To become familiar with the basics of the Baroque violin and gain confidence in approaching this instrument.

SESSION 2: LEFT HAND AND ORNAMENTATION

✧ Content: You will learn about positional shifts, ornamentation, and the use of vibrato in Baroque music. Maite will be working on Corelli’s Sonata Op. 5 No. 7, a inspiring introduction to the Baroque style.

✧ Goal: To develop left-hand skills that open the door to authentic Baroque playing.

SESSION 3: BAROQUE SOUND AND PHRASING

✧ Content: You will discover the nuances of playing with a Baroque bow and gut strings, focusing on phrasing and sound projection. This session will help you develop an authentic Baroque sound.

✧ Goal: To apply learned techniques to produce resonant and expressive sound.
